5 Things About Me

Let’s be honest, this is not a topic I thought I would be writing about BUT I want you to know who you are dealing with. I had a little fun figuring out what 5 things to share with you. I asked my husband and several friends what they think about when they think of me. Of course, I got the inappropriate answers from my husband…and I got some very sweet answers from my friends. Things like determined, loyal, happy, helpful, and then, of course, the answers I was actually looking for…someone who orders 2 entrees when they go out to eat. I won’t lie…I have done that multiple times and as soon as I heard that I couldn’t help but laugh. Another one that made me laugh was…only happy after 9 AM and having breakfast. I am happy to report that my friends know me very well! So let’s jump right into these 5 Things About Me now that I have already given you some hints at what a couple are.

Number 1: I LOVE FOOD!

Let’s be real…everyone loves food, right? I am the kind of person that gets hangry really easy. So to avoid the hangry monster as much as possible I try to always have snacks with me. You would think I would be extremely overweight by now with the amount of food I eat, but I have been blessed with this awesome metabolism thanks to my dad. I keep hearing it is going to catch up with me but I am still waiting (now at age 30) and will enjoy it as long as I can. Although I LOVE food I have some favorites that you could easily win me over with. I would have to say Beef Jerky is my all-time favorite. If I ever turn down some good jerky you should be alarmed that something is wrong. Bacon! Oh my goodness I love me some bacon. I am so excited to say that I will be going to my first ever Bacon Fest this year. Maybe I will report back and do a blog post just on all the different bacon creations I will get to try. Meatloaf and let’s not forget Ribs…these are always my husbands go to supper ideas for my birthday. Let’s just say this man knows the way to my heart. I just realized most of my top foods are all meat…I am completely okay with that but let’s stick something in there that is not meat-related. My mom’s potato soup. I love when she sends me a text and asks if we are coming over so she knows if she needs to make lunch. Guess what her go-to lunch is for Jeff and I…yep, potato soup. It is so yummy and a favorite of my sister and I’s.

Number 2: Animals

I was born to love animals. My dad has always been obsessed with owning all different kinds of animals and I definitely would say I follow in his footsteps. Growing up we had your normal dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, and goats but we also had some different animals like snakes, turtles, peacocks, parrots, ferrets, and I can’t forget Rusty the raccoon. These days I have stuck with dogs, cats, cows, and now I have my horse. I’m sure in my near future there are more animals like chickens and maybe even a pig or goat but at this moment I think I will keep my husband happy and try not to bring home any more 4-legged kids.

I have been blessed with the knowledge, ability, and passion to care for animals and I will always be thankful for that. I’m lucky enough to get to experience the birth of puppies, kittens, calves, and in the next couple years maybe a foal. We take breeding very seriously around here and everyone is health tested and genetics play a large role in the decision making. Not everyone is cut out for the hardships that go along with farm life, some days I am one of them, but most days are extremely rewarding and I honestly couldn’t imagine my life without these beautiful creatures.

Number 3: Essential Oils

Essential oils are my most recent love. Getting introduced to them in February of 2016 seriously changed my life. I have learned so much about hormone disrupters and what chemicals really do to your body and health. The transformation I have been able to make by reducing my toxin intake is quite amazing. I never realized what I was doing to my body and had no idea that so many things were so bad for me. I have replaced everyday products like all my bathroom supplies, my cleaning supplies, laundry, supplements, and air fresheners, with all-natural chemical-free alternatives. Since doing this I have noticed that they actually work better and hello, they are healthy for you. Another big positive of this is that my animals get to benefit from them as well. I am constantly using oils on the dogs and cows with no worries that they are going to have some horrible reaction. Now that I know all the benefits that go along with essential oils I feel the responsibility that I need to teach others how to use them and how to buy the right ones. This journey is only beginning and I cannot wait to see where it takes me.

Number 4: Husband/Marriage

Jeffrey Brown, which is what I call him most the time, is the love of my life. We met when I was only 16 and he was 26. Yes, there is a rather large age gap, but you cannot help who you fall in love with. He was the herdsman on a farm I started working on while in high school. I had no intention of becoming more than friends until my boyfriend at the time asked me who this Jeff guy was cause I seemed to talk about him a lot. A very short time later I broke it off with that boyfriend and started to pursue Jeff. He, of course, had no intention as well of even looking at someone so young but we started dating shortly after I turned 17. I guess I can be persuasive which is probably the reason we have so many animals now. Of course, there is a long story that goes with all that and having to later tell our parents when I turned 18. We have been together ever since, 13.5 years now and still going strong.

Marriage is something I take very seriously. Coming from what I would describe as a broken home, I have always had a goal to fix my marriage if something ever goes wrong. We have been through some very tough times. Money trouble, trust issues (like I said I come from a broken home), communication skills, and of course things that arise that we have to get through as a team. We have gone through a lot in these 13.5 years and I’m sure there will be much more in the future we will need to tackle. I’m prepared to do it together and keep our vows of ‘for better and for worse’. I love you, Jeffrey!

Number 5: NOT a Morning Person

I can’t remember a time where I enjoyed mornings. Some people love jumping out of bed and getting their day going and I am just not one of them. I can easily sleep till 8-9 most days and if it was up to me I rather stay up late. I seem to be very productive at night and my brain just doesn’t stop. Anyone that knows me also knows not to try and interact with me until I have had my breakfast. I’m telling you it’s not a good idea so please take note. Even days I am excited about something like a show or a family function, I still want to lay in bed until 9 or 10. I prefer when my husband lays there and cuddles with me but with him being a morning person it doesn’t happen very often. So as my friend described me, ‘only happy after 9 AM and breakfast’ that statement could not get any truer.
