Most baby powders these days contain talcum powder (talc), which is currently being researched for its link to cancer. Many researchers are warning against the use of products that contain talcum powder and leaning towards more natural ingredients. It is always better to be safe, especially when we are talking about little ones. Luckily, it is so simple to make your own homemade natural baby powder that you will never need to buy it in the store again.
The ingredients for this specific homemade baby powder recipe were chosen for babies and people with sensitive skin. As I said, it is super easy and only contains 3 ingredients, White Kaolin Clay, Arrowroot Flour, and CPTG essential oil.
White Kaolin Clay or White Cosmetic Clay, is very versatile and makes a great base for body powder. It is naturally absorbent and said to be the mildest of all clays, making it suitable for people with sensitive skin.
Arrowroot Flour is a great natural alternative to cornstarch for DIY projects. It is made from the root of the arrowroot plant and is very similar in texture and absorbency to cornstarch.
To add a soothing benefit or just a fresh scent to the baby powder, I would use CPTG essential oils. If making this for babies or adults with sensitive skin, I would recommend using oils such as Lavender or Roman Chamomile. If using it for adults who do not have sensitive skin, you could use several oils such as, Geranium, Tea Tree, Lemongrass, Sandalwood, Clary Sage, or Patchouli. Just make sure you are using the best essential oils that are tested for purity and potency.
How to instructions:
3 Easy Steps:
1) In a bowl, mix equal parts of the dry ingredients (White Kaolin Clay & Arrowroot Flour) and stir carefully.
2) Drip 3-10 drops of essential oil on top and stir thoroughly to combine.
3) Transfer to a shaker bottle or an old reusable spice bottle with a shaker top.
It is that simple!
